Airlines Recovering Quickly From Irene
Airlines say they are making a fairly rapid recovery this week from the widespread travel disruption from Irene, which left millions of people grounded across the country.
Unlike major thunderstorms or some blizzards, hurricanes often are fairly predictable for airlines. Carriers get days to prepare, know with some certainty when they need to shut down in various cities and also can plan for resumed operations, assuming ground staff and facilities are intact. Passengers, too, have several days to make alternative plans before hurricanes hit; few get caught by surprise unaware of the storm.
