TSA: Possible airline threat from implanted bomb

The Transportation Security Administration government has warned airlines that terrorists are considering surgically implanting explosives in people to circumvent screening procedures, U.S. officials told the Los Angeles Times.


While there is no indication of an immediate plot, the information could lead to additional screening procedures at U.S. airports. Existing scanners cannot detect certain explosive materials under the skin. Explosive trace detection swabs can detect bombs under the skin, but they're conducted on only a fraction of passengers, experts told the Times.
