Industry Wants Intelligent Approach To Cargo
3. november 2010 06:28 | CargoAviation Week
Closer cooperation between governments and industry, as well as intelligence-based risk assessment, are key cornerstones of future cargo security initiatives, said speakers at the International Air Transport Association’s Avsec World 2010 conference in Frankfurt yesterday.
Just days after two bombs had been transported by UPS and FedEx aircraft and were only discovered following the flights, industry officials were keen to dampen expectations or fears about far-reaching initiatives that would seriously undermine the cargo industry’s operations. “The freedom of movement is at the heart of our mission,” Transportation Security Administration Administrator John Pistole told conference delegates. He wants intelligence-driven risk management, rather than massive additional across-the-board measures. But he also acknowledged that “we have to do our job better and smarter.”
