President Barack Obama on Sept. 6 unveiled a massive new infrastructure spending proposal that will encompass airports and air-traffic control modernization, as well as giving new impetus to the concept of a national infrastructure bank.
In a Labor Day speech in Milwaukee, Obama said the six-year plan will be aimed at “rebuilding and modernizing” the U.S. transportation network “for the long term.” As well as funding thousands of miles of roads and railways, Obama said the government will “restore 150 miles of runways” and “advance a next-generation air-traffic control system to reduce travel time and delays for American travelers.”
