Jaan Albrecht, CEO of Star Alliance Services GmbH, has been proposed by the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG to become Chairman of the Board and CEO of Austrian Airlines AG as of November 1st, 2011. The nomination is to be considered by the Supervisory Board of the airline at its next meeting in September.

Boeing and Delta Air Lines today announced an order for 100 Next-Generation 737-900ER (extended range) airplanes. The order, with a list-price value of more than $8.5 billion, is part of Delta's fleet renewal effort to replace its less efficient domestic airplanes.

Lao Airlines, the national carrier of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Laos), has signed a contract with Airbus for the purchase of two A320 aircraft, becoming a new Airbus customer. Virgin Australia group of airlines (Virgin Blue Holdings Limited (ASX: VBA) and its controlled entities) today reported a Net Result After Tax of $67.8 million loss. The Net Result before Tax (excluding ineffective hedges) of ($66.6m) is within the guidance of ($30m) to ($80m) announced to the market on 23 March 2011. This result includes $36m in unrealised foreign exchange loss due to the rising Australian Dollar.

Boeing [NYSE: BA] has received a $1.64 billion (£1 billion) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide 14 new CH-47 Chinook helicopters and associated support for the first five years to the Royal Air Force (RAF).

Southwest Airlines today announced that on Aug. 17, 2011, its Board of Directors appointed J. Veronica Biggins to the Board. Biggins was a member of the Board of Directors for AirTran Holdings, Inc., parent company of AirTran Airways, which was acquired by Southwest Airlines in a deal that was completed in May 2011.
