Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has been awarded a $5.8 million one-year contract from FlightSafety Services Corporation to manage C-5 aircrew training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and provide logistical support for six other training locations.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Thai Airways International (THAI) have finalized a firm order for six 777-300 Extended Range (ER) airplanes.

At the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2011 Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company and Indonesian regional carrier PT Sky Aviation signed the contract for the purchase of 12 Sukhoi Superjet 100/95B aircraft.

Airbus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading Russian leasing company, VEB-Leasing, on cooperation in aviation leasing and finance. This morning, Joachim Hunold, airberlin's CEO, announced that he intends to offer the Board of Directors his resignation from the office as CEO of the company as per 1 September 2011. Mr. Joachim Hunold would like to remain bound to the company for the future as a Non-Executive Director and recommends that Mr. Hartmut Mehdorn, who is already a member of the Board of Directors of the company, becomes his interim successor as CEO.

On 16th August, 2011, the first A380 for China Southern Airlines took to the skies for the start of a final phase of flight and ground tests. The tests are being carried out from Airbus' facilities in Hamburg, where the aircraft has undergone painting and full cabin furnishing. 

Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and Grupo Aeromexico (Mexico: AEROMEX.MX) today announced a tentative agreement for a long-term, exclusive commercial alliance. Under the agreement, Delta and Aeromexico will expand cooperation to leverage each other's strengths and link Delta's expansive network with Mexico's largest passenger network. As part of the agreement, Delta also will invest $65 million in Aeromexico.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Air Lease Corporation (ALC) have finalized an order for 14 Next-Generation 737-800s, with options for four more, and five 777-300ER (extended range) airplanes. It was previously posted on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website, attributed to an unidentified customer.

The Qantas Group, Japan Airlines Co., Ltd (JAL) and Mitsubishi Corporation announced today the launch of Jetstar Japan - a new domestic airline that will bring more low airfares to customers in Japan.

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) has signed a contract with Airbus covering the firm order of four A350-900s and five A320 aircraft, becoming a new customer for both aircraft types. The aircraft have been selected by the airline under its fleet modernisation programme, with the A350 XWB set to operate on long haul services to Europe and the A320s on domestic and regional routes.

AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, Inc., announced today that its subsidiary, AMR Eagle Holding Corporation, has filed a Form 10 Registration Statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
